What is a Butterfly Valve?

A butterfly valve is a control valve which can be used to isolate or regulate. The valve operates with a disc fixed through a stem in the body of the valve.

Operation of a spherical butterfly valve:

Butterfly valves, like any other control valves uses an obstruction component.. In this type of valve, a disc is used which is operate with a lever, gear, or actuator on top. This disc is attached to the upper control with a stem which goes from the center of the disc. Butterfly valves some time uses ring gaskets of softer material to provide leak proof operation.

Benefits of using a Butterfly Valve:

Butterfly valves are compact as compared other types of control valves or mechanical valves.  Its compact size makes it very easy to install as well. One of the key benefit of using this type of valve is its affect on the pressure.
